Roles & permissions
Every person in a team has exactly one role.
The four roles
Section titled “The four roles”The person who pays. Created when the team is set up.
Sees the whole team. Can do everything, including managing billing and the payment method.
A leader who isn’t the payer. Useful when the person running the team day-to-day isn’t the person whose card is on file.
Sees the whole team and can do everything an owner can except own the billing.
Supervisor
Section titled “Supervisor”Sees and coaches only the members assigned to them.
A supervisor gets their own view of the team dashboard scoped to their people, can add coaching notes for them, create tasks for them, and build their dashboards.
This is what makes a 60-person team workable: six supervisors with ten people each, rather than one leader trying to hold all of it.
Member
Section titled “Member”Sees only themselves. A member’s Karani experience is the ordinary one — their own contacts, their own fundraising — plus a view of their own team membership.
Leaders
Section titled “Leaders”Owner and Admin are collectively leaders. Where the docs say “leaders”, it means both. Leaders can:
- See and report on everyone in the team
- Set the group-wide default dashboard
- Build a dashboard for any individual
- Create and manage segments
- Upload SLAs
- Share integrations with the team
- Invite, remove, and re-role people

What nobody in a team can see
Section titled “What nobody in a team can see”Being a leader does not give you someone’s contacts, their notes, or their individual donor records.
You see the aggregate: raised, goal, pace, donor count, lapsed count, last gift date, and their gift list. To actually work inside someone’s account, they have to share it with you.
Changing someone’s role
Section titled “Changing someone’s role”On the team dashboard, each person’s row has a Role dropdown. Change it and it takes effect immediately.
Promoting a member to supervisor doesn’t assign them anyone — use + Add Supervisor on the members who should report to them.
