Stripe

Karani uses Stripe Connect so you can take card donations, with the money going to your own Stripe account.

  1. Donor interaction. A donor enters their payment details on your Karani giving page. Stripe tokenises the card — Karani never sees the number.

  2. Payment processing. The tokenised data goes to Karani’s backend, which uses Stripe’s API to charge the card.

  3. Fund transfer. Funds are deposited, then transferred to your connected Stripe account.

  4. Refund handling. If a transfer to the connected account can’t complete, the donation is automatically refunded to the donor so nothing is left in limbo.

  1. Sign up for or log into Stripe. If you don’t have an account, you’ll create one during the flow.

  2. From Integrations, follow the prompts to connect via Stripe Connect.

  3. Configure. Once connected, adjust how funds are processed and transferred. You can set up different accounts for different campaigns or purposes if you need to.

Once Stripe is connected, your giving widget link is on the Finances page.

Share it directly, or embed the widget in your own page:

Online gifts are recorded automatically against the matching contact, typed Online. Where no contact matches the donor’s email, a new one is created.

Stripe’s fees are Stripe’s, deducted by them. Karani records the gift amount the donor gave, not the net after fees — which is correct for donor acknowledgement, and means your Karani total reads slightly higher than your bank deposit. See Understanding your numbers.

Process refunds in your Stripe dashboard. Update the gift in Karani to match — see Adding a gift on why editing beats deleting.

Card details go from the donor’s browser straight to Stripe and are tokenised there. Karani never receives or stores a card number.

If Stripe doesn’t operate where you are, see Paystack or Zeffy.
