Excluding a contact

The portal is account-wide, but you can exclude individual contacts.

An excluded contact can’t sign in, isn’t sent invitations, and can’t pull a statement.

Contact exclusion is managed from the donor portal settings area, per contact.

  • The notes on their record are candid. Fundraisers write frank assessments — capacity, family circumstances, why an ask didn’t land. If cleaning up the notes isn’t practical, exclude the contact.
  • Their giving record is complicated. Soft credits, employer matches, and gifts routed through a foundation can make a statement confusing or wrong. Handle those donors manually.
  • They asked not to have an online account. Some people prefer not to.
  • The contact is an organisation whose finance office reconciles a different way.

Reverse the exclusion the same way. The contact can sign in from that point on.

Nothing that identifies them as excluded. A donor who tries to sign in with an excluded contact’s email simply doesn’t get access.

If they ask, you’ll want an answer ready — “we handle your statement directly, I’ll send it over” is usually enough, and is true.

To revoke access for everyone at once rather than person by person, untick Allow my donors to sign in and view their giving in Settings → Donor Portal. It takes effect immediately.
