Searching for contacts

The search box at the top of every page finds contacts by name. Press Ctrl K ( K on a Mac) from anywhere to jump into it without reaching for the mouse.

Start typing and matches appear as you go. Hit Enter or click a result to open that contact.

Quick search matches on contact names — including spouse and family member names, so searching “Rachel” finds “Michael and Rachel Chen”.

Quick search only does names. For anything else, use one of these:

You want to find… Use
Everyone in Colorado who’s tagged “alumni” Advanced search
Everyone whose status is Donor The status filters on the contacts list
Donors who’ve stopped giving Lapsed Donors
Donors you haven’t thanked Unthanked Donors
A contact you archived Archived Contacts, on the Reports page
A specific gift rather than a person Gifts Report
Contacts sliced and sorted every which way The Grid

The contacts list has quick filters along the top for Contact, Donor, Prospect, and Lapsed Donor. These are one click and cover a surprising amount of what people actually need.

Combine a filter with the Sorting by dropdown — for example, Donors sorted by last updated — to get a working list without touching advanced search.

Archived contacts are excluded from the contacts list and from quick search results. To find one, open Archived Contacts from the Reports page, or run an advanced search with Contact Status set to Archive.

Any advanced search can be saved and re-run from the Reports page or the dashboard. If you find yourself building the same search twice, save it — see Saved searches.
